Professional forecasters have trained their full analytical powers to predict who will win the World Cup. But if past forecasts are any guide, their guess is as good as my lunch buddies’

Everybody seems to have an opinion, if not a bet, on who will win the football World Cup.

Economists and others who make their living from their forecasts – like ace election forecaster Nate Silver – have also muscled in, using sophisticated models, statistical analyses and even machine learning.
