PHNOM PENH, Cambodia- Hun Sen orders instant action on those linked to coup threat

In a meeting at the Council of Ministers today, Prime Minister Hun Sen reiterated his call that authorities at all levels must immediately crack down anyone who joined a coup by Sam Rainsy and those who disseminated the plot on social media.

According to a press statement released after the meeting, the premier said he will not allow anyone to stage a coup or to topple the legitimate government, and he will not tolerate such an act.

“The Government will firmly execute the laws on anyone, who partake in a coup that is meant to topple the government, publicise a coup plot on any forms of social media, or join to welcome the arrival of convict Sam Rainsy on November 9,” he said.

A number of former opposition officials and activists have recently turned themselves in to police to seek clemency, saying that Mr Rainsy insulted the King and instigated the armed forces to rise up against the government.

According to the Justice Ministry, a dozen people allegedly linked to the Mr Rainsy’s have been arrested so far and two dozen others are still at large./
