KUCHING: The state police continued its effort to eradicate all forms of illegal gambling with another round of state-wide raids.
State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said from May 8 to May 14, the police conducted 17 raids against illegal gambling and cock-fighting which resulted in the arrest of 39 individuals.
“Of these 17 raids, 14 were against illegal public lottery tickets (illegal 4D), which saw the arrest of 15 individuals and seizure of cash amounting to RM3,476,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Mobile phones, stationeries, portable printers, betting slips and calculators were also seized as part of the raids.
On Sunday, a team from the state Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism unit (D7) descended on a cock-fighting pit at Jalan Matang and nabbed 17 individuals attempting to flee the area.
The raiding party also seized two live and two dead cockerels at the scene in addition to various gambling paraphernalia.
“All those arrested spent a night in the police lockup, including a 14-year-old school dropout who was present at the cock-fighting pit,” said Dev Kumar.
He added that a raid against a cyber gambling outlet in Sri Aman resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 11 computers and tablets, while four others were detained in Limbang for playing ‘Holo’ at a public area.
