Sneaker Culture to Reign Supreme at Plaza Indonesia Men’s Fashion Week
.
Jakarta. Sneaker fashion will take center stage at the Plaza Indonesia Men’s Fashion Week, or PIMFW, in Jakarta from Monday (25/09) until Friday.
“The global fashion trend is now very much dominated by sneakers,” Ria Juwita, senior manager of events, promotions and creative services at Plaza Indonesia, said during a press conference held at the mall on Tuesday. “Sneakers are so comfortable, as well as stylish and versatile. We can wear them from morning to evening to attend any casual and semi-formal occasions.”
Themed “Sneakers Culture,” the 8th PIMFW will be held in the function room at Plaza Indonesia shopping mall and will feature fall/winter 2017 men’s collections from six international fashion brands and 16 local ones.
All the looks in the show will be presented with premium sneakers.
The men’s collection of Lanvin will open the five-day event on Monday (25/09).
“Our collection is themed ‘Military Spirit,'” Lanvin’s marketing and communication manager Intan Kalista said. “In the show, we’re going to showcase a lot of bomber jackets with colorful prints.”
The brand is also going to feature their own suede, leather and canvas sneakers during the fashion show.
On the second day of the event, actor-cum-designer Tities Sapoetra is going to present a special men’s wear collection in collaboration with Nickelodeon.
“The [men’s] collection is inspired by Sponge Bob,” Tities said. “And in addition to that, we’re also going to present seven women’s looks modeled by Anastasia Siantar and other [female] celebgrams.”
On the final day of the event, PIMFW is going to showcase the collections of eight of Indonesia’s up-and-coming designers in special collaborations with premium sneaker brands.
Fashion designer Didiet Maulana is going to present a collection themed “Lurikat,” which is an acronym of Indonesia’s traditional handwoven fabrics lurik and ikat.
“I was inspired by the movie ‘Allied’ [2016] for this collection,” Didiet said. “So, in this collection, I’m going to present elegant double-breasted suits and wide-legged pants, made of lurik and ikat, a la 1940s with Nike sneakers.”
Soetjipto Hoeidjaja is going to present an eccentric street-wear collection, inspired by Michael Jackson during PIMFW 2017. This collection is going to be presented with premium sneakers from Badass Monkey.
The event is going to be finalized with the fashion show featuring Danjyo Hiyoji’s men’s collection, themed ‘Boys 2017.’
“It’s going to be a fun twist of street-wear paired with Reebok sneakers,” Dana Maulana, co-founder of Danjyo Hiyoji, said. “In the fashion show, we’re also going to release our special collectible items.”
PIMFW, which is currently the only regular fashion event featuring men’s ready-to-wear clothing, has been held annually at Plaza Indonesia since 2010.
“[The event] has grown rapidly since then,” Zamri Mamat, general manager marketing and communications of Plaza Indonesia, said. “More and more people come to the shows. There is indeed a growing enthusiasm for men’s wear in Indonesia.”
This year, the mall expects 8,000 fashion lovers to turn up at the five-day event.
“The market for local men’s wear is growing,” Zamri said. “Therefore, Indonesian [men’s] fashion designers should really challenge themselves to keep inventing and keep progressing.”
