Arts: The Society for the Study of Indonesian Arts

Jakarta. The Society for the Study of Indonesian Arts, or SSIA, Japan is an organization that was founded in Japan in 1977 and initiated by Tsunesuke Masuko to strengthen relations between the two countries through an artist exchange and collaborative research on cultural programs. Since its inception, organization members have been held art and cultural exchange exhibitions, the first of which was hosted at the Tokyo Ginza Tamaya Gallery in December 1979. The first exhibition in Indonesia was held in January 1988 at Pasar Seni Ancol in Jakarta.

The organization’s newest exhibition, its 11th, will host work from 19 Japanese and 21 Indonesian artists specializing in painting, sculptures and photography and will be held at Galeri 678 in South Jakarta from Oct. 12-22. It is sponsored by the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation.
