SKY ushers in the new year with the start of the Hollywood awards season as Blue Ant Entertainment, previously known as RTL CBS Entertainment, brings the 75th Golden Globe Awards and the 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) live from the USA.
Featured in this year’s Golden Globes is the awarding of the 2018 Cecil B. de Mille Award to acclaimed actress, producer, television star, and entrepreneur Oprah Winfrey. The award is annually given to an individual for their incredible impact on the world of entertainment. Past honorees include Audrey Hepburn, George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, and Morgan Freeman.
Renowned director Guillermo del Toro’s adult fairy tale fantasy The Shape of Water, meanwhile, leads this year’s group of nominees with seven nods, including one for Best Picture. Also nominated for Best Picture is the emotional coming-of-age movie Call Me By Your Name. Disney’s latest hit, Coco, on the other hand, received a Best Motion Picture – Animated nomination.
Saturday Night Live alumnus Seth Meyers will host the show, which will air live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel first and exclusive on Blue Ant Entertainment on SKY on 9 a.m. today.
Meanwhile, the 2018 SAG Awards begins a new chapter as it features a host for the first time in its 24–year history in the person of Frozen voice actor, Kristen Bell.
Leading this year’s acting powerhouse nominees in the awarding body solely for performers is Peter Dinklage of HBO’s Game of Thrones. The multi-awarded actor received three nominations from his acting peers; two for GOT and one for the movie, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Known as the “voice of God” in many Hollywood movies, Morgan Freeman is also set to become the 54th recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award for his career achievements and humanitarian efforts. The award is given to actors for “fostering the finest ideals of the acting profession.”
The 24th SAG Awards will air live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, also first and exclusive on Blue Ant Entertainment on SKY, 9 a.m. on Jan. 22.
