KUALA LUMPUR: TELEVISION SERIES – Star Trek: Discovery mentions Malaysia in season finale
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh may hail from Ipoh, Perak but her character in the much-talked about Star Trek: Discovery TV series which recently wrapped up its first season, apparently grew up in Langkawi.
The revelation was made known to Star Trek fans in the final episode of the hit TV series which featured a scene between Yeoh’s character, Captain Philippa Georgiou, and Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), conversing about Malaysia.
“Where are you from, Captain? That saying about Kelpians is so apt, having experienced it firsthand. I wonder where it originated,” asked Michael to Captain Philippa.
.
“Don’t be silly Michael, you know I grew up in Malaysia,” responded Captain Philippa.
“But where exactly? I went there with you once but I can’t remember the name,” asked Michael.
“Pulau Langkawi,” responded Captain Phillipa.
“Right. Those beautiful beaches,” said Michael.
“Indeed,” said Captain Philippa.
Amid the action and surprising twist in the final episode which drew mixed reactions from fans, perhaps this moment was the best of all for Malaysian viewers in particular.
While Star Trek:Discovery is set to return for a second season, the release date has yet to be confirmed.
