KUALA LUMPUR: Two senior lawyers who were part of Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s legal team are no longer representing the former premier.
When contacted, senior criminal lawyer M. Puravalen told theSunthat Datuk Yusof Zainal Abideen and himself have left on amicable terms.
“Datuk Yusuf and I have ended our professional relationship by mutual agreement. We remain on good terms with (Datuk Seri) Najib (Abdul Razak),” he said via a brief message.
Yusof confirmed the amicable separation when contacted and did not comment further.
However, the duo did not divulge any details on who would be replacing them.
Their comments quashed the report by an online portal that a dispute had led to them leaving Najib’s legal team.
The duo who have more than 35 years of experience in the courtroom have left the beleaguered Najib who will be facing charges of money laundering.
Najib is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on how RM42 million from SRC International had allegedly ended up in his private bank account.
On 22 May, lawyers Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal and M. Athimulan withdrew from Najib’s legal team and were replaced by a team led by Yusuf.
Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has been summoned by MACC to give her statement in relation to ongoing investigations on SRC International.
