PHNOM PENH: Preah Sihanouk picked to host 2022 Asean summit
The Government has picked Preah Sihanouk province to host the Asean Summit in 2022.
Tourism Minister Thong Khonr made the announcement on Saturday during a seminar on the tourism sector in the province.
“The government has decided to choose Preah Sihanouk province to host the Asean Summit in 2022 including Asean + 5 meeting with China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and the US,” he said.
Mr Khon asked all relevant sides to work hard to address environmental, sanitation, and public order issues in the province to prepare to receive Asean’s top leaders.

Yun Min, provincial governor, said on Sunday by phone that Prime Minister Hun Sen spoke about the matter a some time ago.
“We are starting to prepare the location and are sprucing up the province,” he said, adding that he plans to use O’Tres Beach for the summit.
Mr Min said that he will create a committee to organise the programmes.
“I think that it is an honoue for our province and as well as for our country that the government was provided opportunity to host the Asean Summit,” he said. “We will work hard to organize this meeting.”

Last week, Mr Hun Sen ordered the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction to cooperate with Chinese companies to build a large modern conference complex in Sihanoukville to host the Asean Summit and meetings with partner countries.
Cambodia has already hosted two Asean summits – first in 2002 and secondly in 2012. Both Asean summits and meetings were held in Phnom Penh.
