A poll watchdog wants the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to detail the causes of transmission and vote-counting glitches that marred the May 13 midterm exercise.

The National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel), which earlier this month pulled out as the Comelec’s citizens’ arm after the latter declined a request for access to key voting data, criticized a “veil of secrecy” at the poll body.

It cited numerous reports of defective vote-counting machines (VCMs) and faulty Secure Digital (SD) memory cards, a seven-hour gap in the transmission of initial election results on Monday, and claims that VCM data was first sent to a “meet-me room” before being forwarded to a transparency server.
