Warming to Greenland as ice melts
News that US President Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland sounded like a joke when it first broke. Incredulous European politicians thought initially it was an out-of-season April Fool’s gag before insisting the island is not for sale. But it turns out that Mr Trump did have the autonomous Danish territory in his sights. True to his past as a property developer, he knows the importance of location, and there are good reasons for US interest in a Greenland deal.

The proposed island purchase has also surfaced several other serious issues despite its oddball elements, including the US President’s tweet of a shiny Trump Tower superimposed on a Greenland town.
