KUALA LUMPUR: LOCAL- Air Selangor to be sole water supplier in Klang Valley
KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) will be the sole licensee of water supply services and only operator to carry out water treatment and distribution services to consumers in the central region from this Friday.
Selangor Mentri Besar Amiruddin Shari said this was done through the restructuring of the water industry by acquiring all privately owned concessionaires namely Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd (PNSB), Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas), ABASS Consortium Sdn Bhd (Abass), Selangor Water Consortium Sdn Bhd (KASB) as well as Selangor Water Distribution Company (SPLASH).

He said the holistic water services industry management under one operator wholly owned by the Selangor state government would lead to more efficient, effective, competitive and sustainable water service quality.
“Air Selangor will carry out water treatment and distribution to consumers in Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya,” he said here yesterday.
On 2008, the Selangor government gave the task to Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) to consolidate and restructure water supply services in Selangor. These services were operated separately by some private concessionaires then.

The state government had spent RM800 million in constructing two Water Treatment Plants (WTP) namely Semenyih 2 WTP and Labohan Dagang WTP and also assisted in the form of grants and loans of RM324.3 million to carry out over 438km pipe replacement works in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Amiruddin added that in spite of incidents reported in the media recently, the frequency of burst pipe cases had shown a decline between 2016 and 2018.
“The number of broken pipes incidents per 100km had shown a decline from 20 cases per 100km in 2016 to 13 cases per 100km in 2018,” he said.
