Four karate athletes from Sports School Brunei enjoyed impressive outings in the Manuel Veguillas Memorial International Open Karate 2020 in Manila, the Philippines yesterday.
The athletes completed podium finishes with a haul of one gold, one silver and two bronzes. Alexander Jackyla bin Dakius bagged gold medal while Alexandra Jacklya binti Dakius won silver in kata events. Mohammad Adam Nawawie bin Mohammad Ishak and Md Zul Farhan bin Roslan competed in the semi final rounds in kumite and bagged bronze medals.

The tournament saw the participation of more than 400 karate players from the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.

The team was led by Sports School karate coach Mohammad Ishak bin Haji Abu Bakar, who was satisfied with the progress of the athletes. The head coach hopes such exposure can continue to be an avenue for the students to further develop themselves as karate practitioners in preparation for bigger and international tournaments in the future.

His primary objective is to develop the young talents who can later join the national team. He also conveyed his gratitude and appreciation to Sports School Brunei and Brunei Karate Federation (BRUKAF) for their support.
Karate trainings are open to public at the Sports School Multi-Purpose Hall in Kampong Pulaie, every Monday and Wednesday (7.30-9.30pm) and Friday (3-5pm).
