SHANGHAI/BEIJING (REUTERS) – Mainland China had 20 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infections on Saturday (March 14), the country’s National Health Commission said on Sunday, up from 11 cases a day earlier.

That brings the total number of confirmed cases in mainland China so far to 80,844.

The death toll from the outbreak in mainland China had reached 3,199 as of the end of Saturday, up by 10 from the previous day.

Jakarta. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Indonesia surged to 96 from 69 a day earlier with five fatalities, the government announced on Saturday.

“The number of cases increased by 27 after we intensified contact tracing,” Achmad Yurianto, a spokesman for the government’s handling of coronavirus outbreak, told a press conference in Jakarta.

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 41 new COVID-19 cases were reported as at noon today, bringing cumulative cases in the country to 238, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

He said all 41 new cases were linked to the tabligh religious gathering, and they involved 37 patient under investigation (PUI) cases while four more are close contact cases.

“To date, a total 203 cases are still being treated, with five in the intensive care unit (ICU) and requiring ventilator support. The five are also being given anti-viral treatment.

“Also, as of today, a total 1,321 samples from influenza-like-illnesses (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) have been tested at the Institute for Medical Research (IMR), all public health laboratories and hospitals. Of those, three samples tested positive for COVID-19,” he said in a statement, here today.

MANILA- Philippines COVID cases hit 111; deaths reach 8

MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country breached 100 as the Department of Health (DOH) documented 47 new cases yesterday, bringing the total to 111.

Fatalities, meanwhile, rose to eight following the death of three patients, including a 54-year-old Filipino male from Lanao del Sur who had no history of travel abroad or exposure to an infected person.

Thailand reported 32 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the total infections in the kingdom to 114, health officials said.

It was the biggest daily jump in cases in Thailand, which was one of the first countries outside China to report coronavirus infections that has since swept much of the world.

HÀ NỘI — Four people, including one from the Czech Republic, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in Việt Nam on Saturday afternoon, bringing the total number of COVID-19 infection cases in the country to 53.

 

 

The 53rd patient is a 53-year-old man from the Czech Republic. He arrived at Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM City on flight QR970 on Tuesday after transiting at Doha Airport (Qatar). When in the Czech Republic, he said he met Italian people. In Việt Nam, he resided in HCM City’s District 1.

SYDNEY (REUTERS) – Australia will impose 14-day self-isolation on international travellers arriving from midnight on Sunday (March 15) and ban cruise ships from foreign ports for 30 days, mirroring restrictions in nearby New Zealand aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the new measures after a meeting with a newly formed national cabinet, dubbed the coronavirus ‘war Cabinet’.

WARSAW (REUTERS) – Poland will ban foreigners from entering the country from Sunday and impose a 14-day quarantine on its citizens returning home in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Friday (March 13).

“The state will not abandon (its citizens). However, in the current situation, we cannot allow ourselves to keep borders open to foreigners,” Morawiecki told a news conference.
