No new COVID-19 cases; recovered patient positive again

Brunei Darussalam yesterday recorded no fresh COVID-19 cases, however, a fully recovered patient allowed to return home for a further week of self-isolation, has tested positive again.

The patient has been readmitted to the National Isolation Centre in Tutong.

With the recent development, the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) new policy states that recovered patients who have been allowed to return home must undergo a further 14 days of self-isolation at home, and will undertake laboratory testing for SARS-CoV-2 virus according to the schedule allocated. Previously, discharged patients were required to self-isolate for seven days at home.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar revealed this at the press conference yesterday.

He said, “One of the cases that had recovered and was allowed to return home was readmitted to the National Isolation Centre for further investigation because the case started developing symptoms, and has tested positive again.”

In light of the new development, “the Ministry of Health (MoH) is now changing the policy for those who have recovered and been allowed to return home to undergo another 14 days self-isolation at home and will undertake laboratory testing for SARS-CoV-2 virus according to the schedule allocated. This is a follow-up treatment given to those who had undergone treatment at the National Isolation Centre. Any cases found to be positive will be referred back to the National Isolation Centre for further investigation and treatment.”

Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah the Almighty, there is no new case of COVID-19 infection in the country. Therefore, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Brunei Darussalam remains at 136 cases.”

Two more cases treated at the National Isolation Centre have recovered and have been allowed to return home, bringing the total number of recoveries to 106 people.

“There are 29 cases still being treated at the National Isolation Centre, two still in critical condition and requiring heart/lung machine (ECMO) and respiratory assistance. Meanwhile, the rest are in a stable condition,” the minister said.

A total of 2,334 individuals have completed their quarantine in accordance to the Infectious Diseases Act (Chapter 204) and only 66 individuals are undergoing quarantine now. As of today, 1,142 individuals have ended their mandatory self-isolation period at the monitoring centres provided by the government upon returning to the country after travelling internationally.

The minister explained that in the past 24 hours, 247 samples have been tested for the virus SARS-CoV-2, bringing the total amount of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 9,884.

PHNOM PENH-Couple test positive for coronavirus, total rises to 122

Two residents in the capital on Friday tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total infected patients in the Kingdom to 122, Phnom Penh Municipal Health Department said.

The patients, identified as a 24-year-old Vietnamese national and her 50-year-old Canadian husband, are receiving treatment at the capital’s Chak Angkre Krom health centre.

Municipal health department director Ngy Meanheng said yesterday officials are working on tracing people who came in contact with the patients.

“We sprayed disinfectants and sanitised the apartment unit they live in,” he said, adding the unit has already been sealed off to contain any virus transmission.

The apartment building is located along Street 302 in Boeng Keng Kang I commune, said commune chief Prak Maly who assured the virus will not spread to the neighbouring units.

Health Ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine said yesterday: “An investigation as to where they may have contracted the coronavirus is underway.”

As for the apartment, she said: “We cannot seal off the whole building because other people live there and would need access to the building day in and day out.” She added health officials have instead sprayed disinfectants in the apartment compound.

The two new cases bring the total number of foreign nationals infected with the virus to 71, in addition to 40 French nationals, 13 Malaysians, five British, three Chinese, two Vietnamese, two Americans, two Indonesians, one Canadian and one Belgian.

In related news, the Health Ministry said two Malaysian patients, aged 34 and 58, who were receiving treatment at a hospital in Kampong Cham province, recovered from the coronavirus, raising the number of recovered patients to 77.

Both were diagnosed in Kampong Cham on March 19, along with four other Malaysians, following their return from a religious congregation in Malaysia in late February. Seven other Malaysians who were also in attendance at the congregation were diagnosed in the provinces of Kampot and Kep.

VIENTIANE- Laos confirms 19th COVID-19 case.

Another Covid-19 case confirmed, bringing total to 19

Another person in Vientiane has tested positive for Covid-19 after sharing a room with a friend who had contracted the virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 19.
Standing Deputy Head of the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Dr Phouthone Muongpak, said on Sunday the latest victim of the virus was a 21-year-old male student living in Phonpaphao village, Sisattanak district.The young man shared the same accommodation with his friend, who was named as the 16th person to be infected between March 27 and April 8.

The same building, located in Nongduangthong village, was home to the 16th, 17th and 18th people to be identified as having the virus.“The two men are friends and live in the same building. The student who tested positive for the virus on Sunday regularly ate with the 16th, 17th and 18th people who contracted the virus from March 29 to April 4,” Dr Phouthone said.
The latest victim returned to the building on April 8. The taskforce contacted him and advised him to go to Mitthaphab Hospital to be tested for the virus. On April 11, he went to the hospital and tested positive for Covid-19, and is now being treated at Mitthaphab.
From January to April 11, a total of 1,140 people were tested and 19 found to be infected with the coronavirus. They are all currently in hospital.From March 23 to April 11, a total of 429 people were monitored for the disease, with 346 being kept in quarantine or under close observation for 14 days. Eighty-three people continue to be monitored for symptoms.
As of 5pm on April 11, some 1,678 people entering Laos had been checked for Covid-19. Of these, 824 people crossed the border from Thailand and were mostly chauffeurs and the drivers of trucks bringing goods into Laos.
A total of 546 people entered Laos from Vietnam, all of whom were truck drivers. No passengers entered Laos at airports. At all of these checkpoints, the temperature of each traveller was checked, but no one showed signs of a fever. Among the 46 people most recently tested for the virus, 32 were in Vientiane and 14 in the provinces. As of April 11, the coronavirus had spread to 210 countries and territories, with at least 1.776,935 million confirmed cases globally. The virus has claimed 108,737 lives while more than 402,010 people have recovered.

MANILA, Philippines — Another 220 individuals in the country have contracted the novel coronavirus disease, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Sunday. This raised the total count to 4,648.

DOH also said that COVID-19 has now killed 297 people in the country as it recorded 50 more deaths, even as 40 more persons were able to recover from the disease, raising the number of recoveries to 197 as of Sunday.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which outbreak started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.

For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.

Globally, the virus already infected more than 1,783,720 people and killed more than 108,900 as of April 12. On the other hand, over 404,860 people have recovered so far from the disease.

SINGAPORE (BERNAMA) – Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) yesterday reported 191 new cases of COVID-19, taking the republic’s tally to 2,299.

The ministry said in a statement that of the new cases, no imported cases were reported while 52 were linked to known clusters, 20 to other cases and 119 pending contact tracing.

Among the linked cases, MOH said 51 cases were linked to clusters at foreign worker dormitories and 21 to non-dormitory clusters or other cases.

Three more dorms were identified as new clusters and they are Westlite Woodlands of Woodlands Sector 2 with eight cases; North Coast Lodge of North Coast Avenue with six cases; and Cassia @ Penjuru of Penjuru Walk with five cases.

In all, there are at least 10 affected dorms from 43 in the republic with more than 500 combined cases so far. Meanwhile, three local cases involving Malaysian men holding Singapore work passes – aged 26, 31 and 44 – were reported.

They are each currently warded at the Singapore General Hospital, City International Hospital and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

The republic has also reported its eighth death due to COVID-19, involving a 90 year-old male Singaporean.

The elderly man was confirmed to have been infected on April 3 and admitted to the NCID on the same day.

According to the MOH, 35 more cases of COVID-19 have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, thus, in all 528 have fully recovered.

Of the 943 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving including 31 in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The ministry said 820 cases, who are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19, were isolated and cared for at community facilities. As at noon, MOH has identified 26,189 close contacts who have been quarantined.
