Jakarta. Indonesia reported 1,301 new confirmed cases of coronavirus on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 60,695.
The number of daily coronavirus infections in Indonesia has surpassed 1,000 for the 12th day in a row now, including a record 1,624 on Thursday.
The National Covid-19 Task Force said 49 Covid-19 patients have died in the 24-hour period, bringing the total death toll to 3,036 or 5 percent of overall cases.
The number of daily deaths from the respiratory disease has been declining since a record 71 on Tuesday.
The government doesn’t include deaths in probable cases as Covid-19 deaths, although thousands of deceased patients have been buried under the Covid-19 procedures across the archipelago.
Below 50 Percent
The number of cured Covid-19 patients jumped by 901, the fourth highest single-day rise, taking the total recoveries to 27,568. That means the country now has 30,091 active cases, representing 49.6 percent of the total confirmed cases.
It’s for the first time since the outbreak the number of active cases has gone below 50 percent of confirmed cases overall.
Close to 520,000 people have undergone polymerase chain reaction-based testing so far, a relatively low figure in a country of 272 million people. The World Health Organization has required at least 1,000 tests per 1 million population.
The curve of new transmissions was in the upward trend in four provinces — East Java, Jakarta, Central Java and South Sulawesi.
Worst-hit East Java reported 353 new cases to bring its total to 13,048, including 969 deaths. Jakarta had a total of 11,961 cases, 140 more from yesterday.
South Sulawesi registered 180 new cases since Thursday, taking its total to 5,559. Central Java, where cases have been surging since mid-June, had 134 new cases to a total of 4,293.
South Kalimantan, as many have predicted, overtook the country’s biggest province of West Java in the fifth place with a total of 3,447 cases although daily cases have been mowing downward by 14-day average.
West Java, which has a population of 49 million people, registered 3,374 cases, increasing by only 28 from yesterday.
