MALAYSIA: Eleven new Covid cases: Health DG

PETALING JAYA: Eleven new Covid-19 cases were recorded yesterday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 9,114.

No deaths were reported with the death toll remaining at 125.

Health Director-General Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the 11 cases reported, eight were imported.

“The eight imported cases consist of seven Malaysians and one foreigner, returning from Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, and Japan,” he said yesterday.

“Of the three local transmission cases, two were Malaysians and one a foreigner.”

Noor Hisham also said that eight patients had recovered and were discharged yesterday, leaving a total of 172 active cases.

“One patient is receiving treatment in an intensive care unit but not needing ventilator assistance.”

Addressing a viral message of a Form Five student from a school in Lembah Pantai who had tested positive for Covid-19, Noor Hisham clarified that the student had only tested positive for dengue so far.

“On Aug 10, the student was tested for both Dengue and Covid-19 after vomiting and having diarrhoea. The dengue results came back positive.

“However, the student’s Covid-19 test is undergoing cross-examination to ensure there is no contamination, which may happen due to the dengue infection,” he added.
