“The 2019 Plague” Day 261
Brunei records no new COVID-19 case
.
Cambodia COVID-19 situational analysis, zero new cases for two days and 13 recoveries, bringing recovery tally to 238
For two consecutive days, no new COVOD-19 positive cases were reported in Cambodia. This comes as a positive relief as 13 new recoveries were reported Saturday and Sunday
The Ministry of Health, in releasing this information to the public on the eve of the five day long public holidays, comes as a relief but is also viewed with concern by some quarters because of the mass movement of people across the country.
The fear that social distancing and self-hygiene may be overlooked in the excitement of travelling to local tourist destinations or re uniting with families in the provinces is of real concern.
The 13 recovered cases comprise Cambodian men returning from Russia, Mali, Indonesia, and Pakistan. They have been allowed to be discharged after being tested negative twice consecutively and reported as discharged Saturday.
The nine new recoveries comprises a 41 years old Canadian woman who had entered Cambodia after traveling from Uzbekistan via Dubai and Korea, an American female aged 25 who arrived in Cambodia via Korea, a Cambodian female peacekeeper, 27, who had returned from Mali , a 13 year Cambodian female who had returned to Cambodia via Taipei,, a 26 year old Cambodian who had returned from Russia after transiting in Malaysia and originating from Kompong Cham, a 65 year Cambodian, also from Kompong Cham who had returned from France via Korea, , 34 year old Cambodian from Kandal who had returned from Pakistan via Malaysia, another two Cambodian males, aged 24 and 27, who had also returned from Pakistan via Malaysia.
The total number of cured patients thus rose to 238 or 87.18 percent of the total confirmed cases of 273, the same source added.
The 273 confirmed cases in Cambodia include 174 Cambodians, 40 French, 17 Chinese, 13 Malaysians, 8 Indonesians, 7 Americans, 5 British, 3 Vietnamese, 3 Canadians, 1 Belgian, 1 Indian, and 1 Kazakhstani. Khmer Times
It must be emphasised that almost all the COVID=19 positive cases since May, have been imported cases and almost all were transiting from various countries and not local contraction or contracted fro the countries of transit, such as Malaysia, Korea and one other. In the case of Philippines and Indonesia, they were direct patients who had contracted the disease at the countries of origin.
As a result, on August 1, Cambodia temporarily suspended flights from Malaysia and Indonesia and on August 13, suspended flights from Philippines. / Khmer Times
