The government on Thursday reported 67 new Covid-19 cases, 58 local infections and eight quarantined arrivals, and issued separate figures for migrant workers.
Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said 55 of the 58 local infections were linked to the Samut Sakhon outbreak, one related to an infection in Tak province and the two others from crowded places.
Most local cases were Thai vendors and labourers, with 20 of them mostly company employees and housewives.
The eight quarantined cases were arrivals from Japan, Myanmar, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
The 67th case was a person who crossed illegally into Thailand from Cambodia.
Of the total 5,829 cases, 4,116 (70.5%) had recovered, including 21 discharged over the previous 24 hours, and 1,653 were in hospital. The death toll was unchanged at 60.
So far, 1,273 migrant workers had tested positive for Covid-19, Dr Taweesilp said.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 683,008 in 24 hours to 79.05 million. The worldwide death toll was up by 13,423 to 1.74 million. The US had the most cases at 18.92 million, up 232,342, and the most deaths at 334,218, up 3,401.

Twelve more imported COVID-19 cases reported in Việt Nam
HÀ NỘI — Twelve more imported COVID-19 cases were reported in Việt Nam on Thursday evening, including a South African expert and 11 Vietnamese nationals, according to the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
The total number of COVID-19 patients in the country now stands at 1,433.
The 25-year-old South African expert, female, arrived at Việt Nam’s Nội Bài International Airport on December 12 onboard transit flight QR976 from Doha. She tested positive for the virus on December 23. She is being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hà Nội’s Đông Anh District.
Six other patients returned to Việt Nam on December 21 from the US, onboard transit flight VN415 from the Republic of Korea. They tested positive for the virus on December 23 and are being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hà Nội’s Đông Anh District.
Four other patients returned to Việt Nam from the UK via Cần Thơ International Airport on December 22. They are being treated at the Lung Hospital in Mekong Delta Vĩnh Long Province.
The remaining patient returned to Việt Nam from the US on December 6 via Đà Nẵng International Airport onboard flight VN319. He is being treated at Đà Nẵng Lung Hospital. — VNS
