2022 PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: MANILA, Philippines- Robredo is 1Sambayan’s presidential candidate for 2022 polls

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo was picked by the opposition coalition group 1Sambayan as its presidential candidate for the 2022 national elections, the group said on Thursday.
“1Sambayan is pleased to announce to the nation that it has reached a decision to endorse Vice President Leni Robredo as its presidential candidate for the May 2022 elections,”retired senior associate justice Antonio Carpio, the group’s lead convenor, said during the program.

“1Sambayan followed a rigorous process in reaching its decision. We consulted our local and foreign chapters as well as our partners together with our three million members,” he added.
Robredo, however, has not yet released any decision on her political plans.
Prior to this, Robredo has been urged to discuss matters with Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to have more chances against candidates the administration will field.

Earlier, Robredo also emerged as the top choice of opposition coalition 1Sambayan to be its standard-bearer in 2022, while former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was the top pick for vice president.
This was based on an internal survey conducted by the coalition from September 12 to 25.
The survey listed five names for president: Robredo, Trillanes, Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Senators Manny Pacquiao, and Panfilo Lacson.

Pray for me
Following the announcement of her nomination, Robredo has called on her supporters to pray for her while she plots her next political move, thanking 1Sambayan for nominating her as their presidential candidate for 2022.
Because of the high level of responsibility that comes with being president, Robredo said that she would have a hard time deciding whether to run for president in 2022. For this reason, she will seek prayer in the next few days so that she can make an informed decision.
Several responsibilities and obligations accompany the role of a president, she said, since the life and future of the Filipino are at stake.
She said the decision to run must be made from within, brought about by dealing with all considerations and thorough analysis of all the factors.
Nevertheless, Robredo said that it was a great honor to be chosen by 1Sambayan.
