The Covid-19 situation has slightly improved, with 3,132 new cases and 28 fatalities, down by 405 and 13, respectively, from the previous day, according to official data.

Of the new cases, 3,039 were in the general population and 33 among prison inmates.

On Friday, 3,278 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Second case of Omicron variant of coronavirus detected in Cambodia

Cambodia has  detected its second case of COVID-19 victim who has been infected with the  Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2.

The second Omicron infected person is a 25 year old Irish male who had entered Cambodia on December 16 from Kenya. He had flown from Kenya to Dubai, Dubai to Thailand and Thailand to Phnom Penh .

He is currently being treated at the National Center for Tuberculosis and Leprosy in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia found the first case of the Covid-19 virus infection, SARS-CoV-2 on a 23-year-old Cambodian woman who returned from work in Ghana.

G7 health ministers today held their final meeting of the UK’s G7 Presidency, focusing particularly on the very worrying developments on Omicron.

1,702 new Covid cases, 4 deaths

The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on Friday announced 1,702 new cases of Covid, along with four more deaths from the virus.

The new cases were identified after 6,369 tests were conducted across the country over the previous 24 hours.

One of those who died was a 55-year-old farmer in Tonpheung district, Bokeo province. She had hypertension and diabetes but had been fully vaccinated.

Covid-19: Enhance self-testing, booster dose awareness -MPNemail sharing button

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Recovery Council (MPN) has made three recommendations, including urging the Health Ministry to enhance its awareness campaign on Covid-19 self-testing and booster doses.

MPN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pix) said the move was important as a precautionary measure for the country against the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“The council also believes that there is a need for proactive and stricter measures, taking into account possible threats of the Omicron variant by continuing to comply with the prescribed SOPs (standard operating procedures).

This time last year, Singapore had eased Covid-19 restrictions, allowing groups of eight to gather and dine out together. The nation also embarked on a journey to vaccinate as many people as possible.

Today, Singapore is one of the most vaccinated countries in the world but dining and gathering limits are back down to five, with the country bracing itself for a possible surge in cases involving the Omicron variant.

Singapore reports 24 confirmed Omicron cases as at Thursday

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) said 24 confirmed Omicron cases have been detected in the republic as at Thursday (Dec 16), with 21 imported cases and three local cases.

“Given its high transmissibility and spread to many parts of the world, we should expect to find more Omicron cases at our borders and also within our community,” MOH said in a statement late Thursday.

 MOH said it has detected one more local Covid-19 case testing preliminarily positive for the Omicron variant on Thursday.“The case is fully vaccinated and has mild symptoms, and is recovering in an isolation ward at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID),” it said.

MOH noted that it is ringfencing the case through contact tracing.

Labeled as Case 276615, it involved a 42-year old male who works as a loading assistant at Changi Airport Terminal 3 and had no contact with flight passengers.

SINGAPORE – Fully vaccinated Singaporeans will be able to fly to Sydney and Melbourne in Australia without having to serve a three-day quarantine period from next Tuesday (Dec 21).

This development restores two-way travel without quarantine between Singapore and parts of Australia, after a three-week suspension.

Under Australia’s travel pilot for Singapore, vaccinated Singaporeans can enter parts of the country for all forms of travel, including tourism.

Authorities have ordered the temporary closure of a cosmetic clinic run by the online celebrity Pimrypie for 30 days for employing an allegedly bogus doctor.

Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha said on Saturday that officials from the Department of Health Service Support (DHSS) had inspected the Huai Khwang branch of the Est Cute clinic in response to a reported offence.

The owner of the clinic would face charges for a breach of the Clinical Establishment Act, he said, adding that only one branch of the clinic would be closed. The order is expected to take effect on Monday.
