Arguments in favor of amending the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution, ostensibly to encourage greater foreign investments in the country, have been around since the 1990s, not very long after the country’s basic law was ratified.

If this new way of simply amending laws to, in effect, amend long-established provisions of the Constitution becomes common practice, the next changes our politicians might do may not be so innocuous.

Eksaktong dalawang buwan na lamang at election na. Pipili na ang botante ng mga kandidatong karapat-dapat na sa tingin nila ay makatutulong hindi lamang sa kanila kundi sa bansa mismo sa pangkalahatan. Dapat maging maingat at magsuri muna bago bumoto. Mahirap magkamali at magsisi sa huli.

Nawawala na ang tunay na layunin kung bakit nilikha ang party-list system. Hindi na para sa marginalized kundi para sa matatakaw sa kapangyarihan. Nararapat nang gumawa ng batas para maibasura ang party-list system. Buwagin na ito sapagkat mula nang ipatupad noong 1998, wala nang representasyon ang mga maliliit at nakakaligtaan sila. Pawang mga mayayaman ang nasa puwesto.
