Vice President Leni Robredo and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio were the most searched candidates for president and vice-president, respectively, according to Google’s newly-launched search trends.
The trends page, which was launched on Wednesday (March 9) helps surface top queries, topics, and most searched candidates running for the country’s highest posts. The company noted that the trends are not a poll or survey and do not reflect voting intentions.

“It merely reflects people’s search interest about particular topics at a local level over a period of time. A spike in a particular search query does not reflect that a candidate is somehow ‘popular’ or ‘winning,’” Google said.
Based on data from March 4 to 11, 46% of Google searches on presidential candidates were about Robredo, followed by presidential candidate and the late dictator’s son Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos with 25%.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Senator Manny Pacquiao each account for 12% of the search queries, followed by Senator Panfilo Lacson with 5%.

In the same time period, Duterte was the most searched among the vice-presidential candidates at 47%, while Robredo’s running mate Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan comprised 30% of the searches.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III thirds at 14%, followed by former lawmaker Walden Bello with 7%, and Lito Atienza with 3%.
Data for other candidates were not included in Google trends for the Philippine elections.
The trends page for the elections also included users’ interest in various political issues, with education being the top search interest followed by drugs, economy, tourism, agriculture, justice, and poverty.
Millions of Filipinos are expected to troop to polling centers on May 9, 2022 to elect the Philippines’ next president and vice president and 12 senators at the national level as well as 316 representatives and hundreds of posts at the local level.
There are 10 candidates vying to become the successor Rodrigo Duterte as the next Philippine president including Leni Robredo, Manny Pacquiao, Bongbong Marcos, Isko Moreno, Ping Lacson and Leody de Guzman.
