‘Fate had other plans’: Partido Reporma endorses Robredo after Lacson’s resignation
MANILA, Philippines (Updated 4:12 p.m.) — Partido Reporma said Thursday that it is now backing the bid of Vice President Leni Robredo for the country’s highest executive position, noting that her ideals are in line with the political party’s thrust.
Partido Reporma, founded by ex-Defense Secretary Renato de Villa, earlier supported the presidential bid of Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson who resigned from the party and now runs as an independent candidate.

Moments prior to this, Lacson announced his resignation from the party.
“We need a leader. And for the 2022 Presidential elections, given all these considerations and the crisis we have to overcome, that leader is a woman,” Alvarez said. “Her name is Leni Robredo.”
As of writing, Leni Robredo is in Davao Region, with two sorties at Digos City, Davao del Sur and Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
Alvarez, the party president, claims that she “represents ideals which are substantially in line with the aims of Partido Reporma: to reform government and provide a better future for Filipinos.”
Partido Reporma saw the necessity to “set aside personal preferences” in their decision to back Robredo.
“With time still left, but admittedly not a lot of it, decisive action is necessary. We must respond to the demands of patriotism requiring us to set aside personal preferences, the end goal being collective victory for good governance, a better future for Filipinos, and a strong and progressive nation,” Alvarez said.
He added, “We respect the choice of our members and officers. They are not Pink, but they are reformists, and they are for Leni Robredo. The fight for good governance and a better tomorrow for our People has never been, and never will be, limited to a single color.”
Last year, Lacson took his oath as chairman of Partido Reporma after being partyless since 2004.

Alvarez said in 2021 that he would “campaign for a real leader”, promising to support Lacson in his bid for presidency.
Robredo before said that while they weren’t gatekeeping Alvarez in becoming part of the opposition, they have to consider values and principles that they share.
