ELECTIONS 2022: ‘Solid north’ shatters as Leni-Kiko leads in north universities polls

Challenging the “solid north” narrative of the Marcos camp, two separate surveys conducted by the Saint Louis University Commission on Elections (SLU COMELEC) and formations in the University of the Philippines (UP) Baguio show that the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan are leading in voter preference.

In SLU COMELEC’s survey conducted March 17 to 19, Robredo garnered 4,938 out of 6,106 votes (80.9%) while Pangilinan got the same statistics. The survey was open to students, faculty, and non-teaching staff of SLU.
The tandem of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City mayor Sara Duterte landed second place in the presidential and vice presidential preference surveys with 762 and 818 votes, respectively.

Meanwhile in UP Baguio’s survey organized by their University Student Council (USC), student publication Outcrop, and Council of Leaders, Robredo and Pangilinan got a much higher voter share at 97.9 percent and 96.9 percent, respectively. Their survey had 1,028 respondents.
Marcos Jr. and Duterte barely even made one percent, garnering only five votes each (0.5%) out of all the respondents. Their survey ran from April 5 to 18.
Marcos and Duterte are the frontrunners in most opinion polls.
