Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Benjamin Diokno is still the highest-paid government official, having received P41.811 million in salaries and allowances in 2021, more than double his total income in 2020.
In the 2021 Report on Salaries and Allowances (ROSA) released by the Commission on Audit (COA) on Friday (June 17), Diokno’s pay increased by over 111% from P19.791 million he received in 2020.
He is followed by two other BSP officials–board member representative Victor Tolentino and Monetary Board member Felipe Medalla – with a total income worth P23.29 million and P21.83 million, respectively.
Other BSP officials filled the rest of the Top 10 highest-paid officials namely: BSP Monetary Board members Antonio Abacan at P21.709 million, Peter Favila at P21.673 million, Anita Linda Aquino at P21.426 million; BSP deputy governors Chuchi Fonacier at P20.243 million, Maria Almasara Amador at P20.175 million and Francisco Dakila Jr. at P17.831 million; BSP senior assistant governors Ma. Ramona Gertrudes Santiago at P17.381 million and Elmore Capule at P 7.249 million.
Meanwhile, Solicitor General Jose Calida, who was the second highest-paid official in 2020, significantly dropped in rankings as BSP officials’ income increased. He is now in the 12th spot with an income of P16.59 million, with his reported earnings going up less than a million pesos.
The ROSA is an annual report that summarizes the total income received by officials in nearly a thousand government-owned or controlled corporations, national government agencies, state universities and colleges, and stand-alone agencies.
The report aims to “complement the continuing thrust of the government for transparency and accountability” and to summarize the total payments and benefits officials received, COA said.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo was the highest-paid official in the legislative branch at 15th place with P13.214 million.
