Former first lady Imelda Marcos, mother of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., celebrated her “93th” birthday in Malacañang Palace – the very place where her family was forced to flee from during EDSA People Power Uprising in 1986.
Photos of the imeldific event were published on the social media pages of Ilocos Norte 2nd District Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba and Atty. Michael Manotoc, Senator Imee Marcos’ son.
“Wishing our Aunty, the First Mother now, FM Imelda Romualdez Marcos all the best on her 93rd birthday,” Barba said.

“The great grandkids got all dressed up for their first visit to Malacañang! Happy Birthday Mama Meldy!!” Atty. Manotoc said.
The event drew criticism from some social media users, especially with the Marcoses’ history in governance, and the fact that Imelda Marcos is not currently in any government position.
“Tax po ba ng Filipinos yung binayad para sa kuryente na ginamit sa punyetang event na yan?” a user commented on Instagram.

“Hindi personal na pera ng mga Marcos ang ginastos sa magarbong birthday party kay convicted criminal Imelda,” labor rights advocate Lean Porquia said. “Sa Malacañang ang magarbong party. Pera yun ng Office of the President. Ang pera na yun ay galing sa buwis ng taumbayan.”
(The Marcoses did not use their personal funds for the fancy birthday party for the convicted criminal Imelda. The fancy party was held in Malacañang. The money came from the Office of the President. That money comes from the people’s tax).
When asked about the event, the Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) said that they “We will only be releasing statements on issues where public interest [and] welfare is involved.”
Imelda Marcos was recently greeted for her “93th birthday” by an ad agency through a billboard seen on EDSA.
