Former Vice President Leni Robredo has announced the comeback of her free teleconsultation service Bayanihan e-Konsulta, calling for volunteers to help run the service as COVID-19 cases increase again in the country,

“Dahil sa pagdami na naman ng Covid cases dito sa atin, magbubukas pong muli ang Bayanihan e-Konsulta (Because COVID-19 cases are increasing again here, Bayanihan e-Konsulta will reopen),” Robredo announced on her Facebook page on Wednesday (July 20).

Robredo also called for volunteer doctors such as general practitioners or specialists, and non-medical volunteers who are willing to work as call bridging agents and chat support in a remote setup.

“Bilang paghahanda, mangangailangan ang programa ng fifty (50) non-medical volunteers at forty (40) medical volunteers (na maaaring madagdagan sa susunod na mga araw depende sa bilang ng request) para sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng ating operasyon,” Robredo said in the post.

(In preparation for this, we will need 50 non-medical volunteers and 40 medical volunteers for different parts of our operations. The number of volunteers needed may still increase in the next few days, depending on the volume of requests.)

Within 20 minutes after posting the announcement, Robredo noted that there were already 1,100 volunteers who signed up for the program.

“The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well,” Robredo said.

The Bayanihan e-Konsulta – a teleconsultation program aimed at assisting both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients – was launched by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) under Robredo’s leadership at the height of the pandemic.

The program was initially launched to fill the gaps in the government’s COVID-19 response, especially when the country was facing a surge in April 2021.

Worst is over

Despite the current surge of COVID-19 cases, 83% of Filipinos are hopeful that the worst is over with the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on Wednesday (July 20).

The survey also showed that 16% of Filipinos fear that the worst of the pandemic might still come.

As of July 20, the country has recorded 2,074 new COVID-19 cases, while the active tally further increased to 20,678 from 20,511.
