As a tribute to the dedicated healthcare professionals who have been on the frontlines, the esteemed Florence Nightingale Award listed a Filipina nurse as one of their recipients.
The award recognizes Janina Galangga as one of the nurses who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, skill, and compassion in their profession. It is an international honor given to outstanding nurses who have made significant contributions to the nursing profession.
For the titan division, Galangga is one of the 12 awardees all over the United States. Her story of dedication and service has shone brightly amid the challenges faced by healthcare workers during these times.
On her Facebook, the nurse expresses her gratitude for the award in a post that reads: “I am so honored and excited to receive this award. Bosses from [the] Cardinal Division came over to our clinic to surprise me and handed me over this recognition.”

Two years ago, Galangga arrived in the US to assume a nursing role at the kidney care center in Hampton, Virginia. Impressively, she was then promoted to the position of clinical manager in just five months.
As Galangga shares that she was unaware her boss nominated her, and both her boss and her husband kept the secret for two weeks, she said in the same post that she was “beyond ecstatic and grateful” upon receiving the award.
Prior to working in the US, Galangga once worked at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila and at a military hospital in Saudi Arabia.
In receiving the nursing excellence award, the Filipina nurse joins the group of nursing professionals who have made an indelible mark on the world through their commitment to providing healthcare and compassion.
