XINHUA – The official website of Laos’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2024 was launched during a conference yesterday to discuss its preparation.
Chaired by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith, who is also deputy head of the National Steering Committee on Preparation and Implementation of ASEAN Chairmanship of Laos 2024, the meeting was attended by representatives of relevant ministries and organisations.

MYANMAR: Myanmar military, insurgents battle over port town

ANN/THE STRAITS TIMES – Myanmar’s military has launched attacks from the air and the sea to recapture a port town on the Bay of Bengal, an opposition alliance said yesterday, as junta forces face the fiercest offensive from their enemies in years.
The military, which seized power from an elected government in a 2021 coup, is battling a coordinated offensive launched in October by an alliance of three ethnic minority insurgent groups, as well as allied pro-democracy fighters who have taken up arms since the coup.

Singapore and Indonesia launched cross-border payment services Friday, the countries’ central banks said, as part of a regional drive to boost connectivity. Customers of a dozen banks in Singapore and Indonesia will now be able to make payments to merchants in both countries by scanning QR codes, Bank Indonesia and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said in a joint statement.
