Two winners of the Sibsonglasy Lottery, run by the Lao Development Lottery, have collected 7.2 billion kip in prize money, with one ticket buyer picking up 1.2 billion kip and another winning 6 six billion kip, one of the biggest wins ever recorded in a Lao lottery.
Mr Thongdy, 30, who won 1.2 billion kip, bought an Insee six-digit lottery ticket from an individual distributor for just 1,000 kip.

He collected his winnings from the Director of the Lao Development Lottery State Enterprise, Khamphen Bouphavong, on January 25 at the Lao Development Lottery State Enterprise, witnessed by the Deputy Director of Sibsonglasy Joint Venture Lottery Enterprise, Manotham Phetsiliseng.
The second delighted winner was Ms Phonxay Chanthavong, who collected an astonishing 6 billion kip after buying a six-digit ticket on the App Insee hub for 5,000 kip.
Ms Phonxay – a government official from Vangvieng district, Vientiane province – won the prize in the 8th batch on January 25.
She was presented with her winnings by the Deputy Director of the Lao Development Lottery State Enterprise, Soubanh Phiasakkha, and the Deputy Director of the Sibsonglasy Joint Venture Lottery Enterprise, Manotham Phetsiliseng, on January 26 at the Sibsonglasy Joint Venture Lottery Enterprise.
Mr Thongdy said he was thrilled to have won first prize. After hearing the good news, he and eight family members travelled from Phongsaly by minibus on a two-day journey to Vientiane to collect his winnings in person.
He expressed heartfelt thanks to the Sibsonglasy Joint Venture Lottery Enterprise for their warm hospitality and providing accommodation for himself and his family as well as organising a tour of Vientiane to several landmarks and some temples so they could make merit.
Mr Thongdy said he would use some of the money to buy gold for his wife, pay for his children’s education, and grow his family business.
Meanwhile, Ms Phonxay, the second winner, said she was amazed at her good fortune and that never in her wildest dreams did she think she would win such a big prize, even though she has tried her luck in lotteries many times in the past.
She said she would spend the money to grow her business and put some aside to pay for her children’s education.
Sibsonglasy Lottery is a new product of the Lao Development Lottery and Insee lottery is the sole authorised dealer in Laos, with outlets across the country.
