The next five years are crucial for Cambodia as the country is boosting itself to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) while also bracing to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said the United Nations representative in an exclusive interview with the Khmer Times, adding that the UN and its agencies will do their best to assist the Kingdom in its priorities in the process.

It has been over a year and a half since Jo Scheuer was appointed the UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia. While he is not a stranger to the country, during his ongoing term, Scheuer witnessed the first ever transition of power in over three decades and the change of the head of the government in Cambodia last year. Just last week, he and his team met with Prime Minister Hun Manet in the PM-Dialogue Meeting, which focused on Cambodia’s LDC graduation by SDGs.

Anti-junta fighters claim to have taken five regime soldiers prisoner on Tuesday when they seized their base near Monywa, the Sagaing Region capital and site of the army’s Northwestern Regional Military Command (RMC) office.

According to spokespersons for the Sagaing Region People’s Defence Organization, resistance forces attacked an outpost manned by some 40 junta troops at around 5pm in the village of Htee Taw Tin, about a mile from the Northwestern RMC headquarters. The anti-junta fighters were able to take the base within 30 minutes, they claimed.

Min Min, the commander of the resistance’s Union Liberation Front (ULF) column, said junta reinforcements arrived soon after the battle began.

“The Northwestern Regional Command sent two columns of reinforcements. We had to engage quickly and the fight was quite rushed. We had the enemy coming from both sides and aircraft flying overhead when five. . . .

SINGAPORE: Grab’s mapping project in Tengah aimed at solving connectivity woes plaguing residents, services

SINGAPORE – When real estate agent Loh Zhenhao moved to Tengah’s Plantation Grange district at the end of April, he found it challenging to find ride-hailing services quickly.

Mr Loh, 40, said his wife waited in vain for almost an hour to try to get a private-hire car ride to Orchard on June 9, and he resorted to driving her there instead.

Tengah’s first batch of Build-To-Order flats was launched in end-2018, with key collection starting in August 2023.

Like Mr Loh, other residents have complained about the lack of amenities and transport options, such as private-hire cars.

Drivers and delivery riders also have difficulties navigating the estate’s roads and footpaths.

This may change soon with technology firm Grab, which offers ride-hailing and delivery services, having started mapping the roads and footpaths of several precincts in Tengah in March.
