MYANMAR: As ceasefire ends, Ta’ang armed group moves to seize northern Shan State towns from Myanmar military

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) took over government offices in Nawnghkio, northern Shan State only hours after announcing a resumption of hostilities with junta forces

Members of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) prepare their weapons amid clashes with Myanmar's military in Namhsan Township, northern Shan State in December 2023. The clashes were part of a broad offensive campaign against the Myanmar military in which the TNLA participated as part of the Brotherhood Alliance. A Chinese government-mediated ceasefire temporarily halted the offensive in January of this year, but hostilities between the TNLA and Myanmar military resumed this week.

Battles raged in two northern Shan State townships after a China-brokered truce broke down on Tuesday and an anti-junta armed group resumed offensive operations against the military regime’s forces.

Fighters of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and their allies seized government buildings as they drove army troops out of Nawnghkio, northern Shan State, about one hour’s drive from the military garrison town of Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region, locals told Myanmar Now on Wednesday.

“The Ta’ang army captured almost all administrative offices yesterday.  So, it could be said that the town is largely under the control of the TNLA,” a Nawnghkio resident said.

SINGAPORE – Whenever foodpanda rider Keith Ong has to deliver food to condominiums here during a downpour, both he and the food are likely to get drenched.

Many condos here require delivery riders who use electric bicycles to leave their two-wheelers outside and walk in, often without much shelter along the way, said the 57-year-old.

Mr Ng Gan Poh, 33, who has been delivering food for eight years, said going to Orchard Road or the Central Business District means paying high parking fees as some malls do not have grace periods for deliverymen.
