Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the 2024 Water Festival will be larger and more festive than in previous years. Speaking at the weekly cabinet plenary meeting at the Peace Palace this morning, he emphasised the importance of this year’s celebration to attract both national and international tourists.

The Premier directed the National Committee for Organising National and International Festivals and relevant ministries and institutions—particularly the Ministry of Tourism and the private sectors–to collaborate in organising the annual event.

The Water Festival is one of Cambodia’s largest celebrations. It marks the end of the monsoon season, pays tribute to nature and water for productive harvests, and celebrates the country’s rich cultural heritage. This year, the Water Festival will take place from November 14 to 16.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also encouraged neighbouring provinces and cities to host additional events to diversify tourism offerings, allowing tour companies to create and promote local packages. Looking ahead to 2025, he advised the Ministry of Tourism and the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) to work with local authorities and the private sector to organise Angkor Sankranta in Siem Reap and Sankranta celebrations in other provinces.
