A series of airstrikes carried out by Myanmar’s military has killed at least 11 civilians—more than half of them children—in southern Kachin State and northern Shan State since late last week.

On Friday, an attack on the village of Konlaw in Kachin State’s Momauk Township left at least eight people dead and several others injured, sources there said.

According to a local man close to the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the airstrike appeared to target a church used to house internally displaced persons (IDPs) sheltering in the village.

“There were IDPs from .staying there. Around eight people, including children, died instantly. The church was destroyed. It happened while children were playing,” the man said.

A photo seen by Myanmar Now showed that at least five of the victims were children.
