MANILA, Philippines — In yet another leadership change within the Marcos administration, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan Uy has resigned from his post, the third Cabinet official to step down in less than a month.

President Marcos accepted Uy’s resignation yesterday, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a text message.

“An OIC (officer-in-charge) will fill the position until the President appoints a secretary,” Castro said.

She did not reply to media queries on the reason behind Uy’s resignation.

Officials and personnel of the DICT appeared clueless about the resignation of Uy, with one calling it “fake news.”

Another official said Uy presided over a meeting of the National Cybersecurity Inter-Agency Committee on Wednesday as its chairman, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, reportedly begged off from the task.

Uy was appointed to the DICT in June 2022. His resignation came weeks after Malacañang announced the appointment of new heads of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

On Feb. 13, Bersamin announced that Jaime Bautista resigned as DOTr secretary for health reasons.

Bautista was replaced by corporate executive and former Duterte administration official Vince Dizon, who joined the Marcos Cabinet on Feb. 21.

A week later, PCO secretary Cesar Chavez resigned from his post. He was replaced by former television reporter Jay Ruiz.

Chavez, a broadcaster and erstwhile transportation undersecretary, admitted he had “fallen short” of what was expected of him, but did not elaborate. Ruiz took over the leadership of the government’s lead communication arm last Feb. 24.

At a press briefing late last month, Castro said Marcos was assessing the performance of all members of his Cabinet.

“The President is still evaluating if there’s a need for a change of leaders in each department. Everyone is under evaluation,” she told reporters last Feb. 24. – Rainier Allan Ronda
