Seventy year ago, on March 22, 1955, the Party was founded, marking a significant milestone in the revolutionary journey of the Lao people and the nation, which used to be ruled by foreign aggressors and regimes that suppressed the people of Laos for thousands of years.
The Party, which adheres to Marxism-Leninism, is a true loyalist of the Lao people. Carrying on the precious task of the Indochinese Communist Party founded by President Ho Chi Minh in 1930, the Party united Lao fighting groups previously led by tribal leaders separately into a strong united force to fight against aggressors and their regimes.
“The Party has become the flag and the shining beacon for the revolutionary movement and national liberation struggle of the Lao people,” Secretary General Thongloun said.

Since then, under the leadership of the Lao People’s Party (currently LPRP), the revolutionary movement of the Lao people has gained many victories.
“Eventually, we were able to seize national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity for our nation and people,” the top leader said.
He called this great victory a “miracle” that was a significant turning point in the history of the nation and the cherished homeland of all Lao people to this day.

Recalling the leadership journey, the Secretary General said the Party successfully overcame a number of difficult tests, reflected in a number of victories the Lao people have won in their fight that eventually led to the proclamation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975.
During the post-revolutionary fight, the Party continued to lead the people to heal the wounds of war and carried out national construction and defence tasks.
Led by President Kaysone Phomvihane, the Party has introduced the so-called “renovation policy”, transforming the country from a subsidised economic mechanism into a market-oriented one. This has created favourable conditions for opening up and promoting external operations and welcoming foreign investment.
“Real practice has proven that the renovation policy put forward by our Party is correct, consistent and supported by all Lao people,” he said.
Over the past seven decades, the Party has overcome a number of difficulties and made fundamental achievements. The country has enjoyed firm stability, security and social order. The socio-economic sector continues to grow and pressing financial and economic issues have been gradually addressed to prevent the economy from sliding into a crisis.

On the same day, a number of events and activities were held across the country to commemorate the event.
