The ASEAN Defence Observer Group, led by the Malaysian Defence Attaché, will carry out a two-week mission to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand along tense border areas.

A group of ASEAN military observers from seven member states, led by Malaysia, is set to conduct field inspections at selected sites in Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

The Ministry of National Defence confirmed that the inspection mission, scheduled for August 3, will be carried out by the ASEAN Military Observer Group (AMOG), led by the Malaysian Armed Forces.

According to Ministry of National Defense, the mission includes participation from military representatives of six other ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.

According to Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, the observer group includes military representatives from seven ASEAN nations and aims to reinforce regional peace, stability, cooperation, and development during a sensitive period following armed clashes in late July.

“The ASEAN Defence Observer Group, led by the Malaysian Defence Attaché, will conduct a two-week mission to observe the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and support peace, stability, cooperation, and development,” she added.

The observers will be deployed across key border zones, including Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces—areas most affected by recent military tensions. They consist of participants from the militaries of six other ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.
