The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia yesterday welcomed two military officers from Singapore to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), which is tasked with monitoring the border situation following the implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, Spokesperson Maly Socheata, two officers—Major Li Yiming and First Warrant Officer Toh Wee Chiang—arrived at Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport. They will be part of the ASEAN Observer Team, led by Malaysia and responsible for observing, verifying, and reporting on developments along the border.

Cambodia has expressed strong support for the AOT. The country believes it is important to strengthen the team’s role and responsibilities to ensure that both Cambodia and Thailand effectively implement the ceasefire and other agreed measures.

This effort aims to improve transparency, accountability, and trust between the two nations. The spokeswoman also mentioned that Cambodia welcomes increased involvement from friendly countries.

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of National Defence reiterated their firm commitment to fully and strictly uphold relevant agreements, including the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held on Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between the two countries on Oct. 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements.

The Royal Government emphasised that these commitments are intended to facilitate a swift return to normalcy and to promote lasting peace, stability, and long-term security in the border areas.
