The Laos-Vietnam Railway will bring more convenient transport conditions for Asia-Potash
The Laos-Vietnam Railway is a high-speed electric locomotive railway. The route runs from Vientiane in Laos to the border between Laos and Vietnam, passing through Thakhek in Khammouane province, where the potash plant of Asia-Potash in Laos is located, to the port city of Vung Ang in Vietnam. Construction of the railway from Thakhek in Khammouane province to the Laos-Vietnam border will begin in March 2023, with a total length of 240 km, and is due for completion in 2026. The potash production base of Asia-Potash is located in Thakhek, Khammouane province, Laos. After the completion of the Laos -Vietnam railway, the potash products can be directly transported to Vientiane in the north via the Vientiane – Thakhek section by taking the China – Laos railway; in the east, the potash products can be directly transported to the port via the Thakhek – Vung Ang port section and turned to the sea for export. This will significantly shorten logistics transportation time and reduce logistics transportation costs, bringing more convenient transport conditions for releasing the expansion capacity of our company.
VIENTIANE — The Lao Government and the Laos–Việt Nam Railway Co. Ltd have officially signed a concession agreement for the design, construction, capital mobilisation, operation and maintenance of the Laos–Việt Nam railway project, covering the section from Thakhek town in Khammouane Province, central Laos, to the Mụ Giạ border area in Việt Nam’s former Quảng Bình Province (now Quảng Trị Province).
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Vientiane on March 31, Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport Leklay Sivilay affirmed that the railway project is a key national one that will help Laos realise Resolution No. 04 of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on building an independent and self-reliant economy. The project also contributes to the implementation of the country’s 10th five-year national socio-economic development plan, particularly the global integration to facilitate production, services, trade and investment.

Sivilay stressed that in the future, the Laos–Việt Nam railway will stand as a symbol of cooperation in a new era, further strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between the two countries.
