MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines-Diliman has voiced opposition to the nomination of its former faculty member, presidential spokesman Harry Roque, to the International Law Commission.
The UP Diliman Executive Committee, during its 314th meeting held last Monday, resolved to oppose the nomination of Roque to the United Nations body.
“Atty. Roque has a very poor track record of promoting, defending and fulfilling the human rights and the rule of law, especially during the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte in which he serves as a Cabinet member,” the committee said.
“Therefore, his inclusion in the Commission would not serve its purpose but instead diminish the reputation of the body,” it added.
The UP Diliman Executive Committee is composed of the chancellor, the vice chancellor, the deans and directors of colleges and schools, as well as the university registrar and three members at-large elected by the University Council.
