Indonesia has increased the mandatory quarantine period for all international arrivals from seven days to 10 days, effective starting Friday, as the Omicron variant continues to spread across the globe.

Cambodia must step up vaccination programme to meet targets, lest it stagnates

As Cambodia crossed the 80 percent threshold for herd immunity against COVID-19 and low new infection and mortality rate, its vaccination campaign has begun to falter.

Overall vaccination at 88.29 percent has been stagnant at 88 percent plus for a while adolescents vaccination has also been stagnant at the 98 percent plus at 98.67 percent for quite a while although 140,000 was removed from the targeted number inexplicably.

Rights group says Myanmar forces purposely killed protesters

BANGKOK (AP) – The killing of at least 65 protesters in Myanmar’s biggest city on March 14 this year was planned and premeditated, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice, a rights watchdog said in a report released yesterday.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) accused security forces of deliberately encircling and using lethal force against crowds in Yangon’s working class neighbourhood of Hlaing Tharyar that were demonstrating against the military’s February 1 seizure of power from the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.

Bulk of bus tickets for S’pore-Malaysia VTL still available despite technical problems on first day

SINGAPORE – Some 4,400 bus tickets have been snapped up for quarantine-free land travel between Singapore and Johor Baru on the first day that they went on sale.

Three-quarters of the tickets were for journeys from here to Malaysia, while the rest were for trips in the other direction, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) said in response to queries.

While demand for tickets is likely to remain high, the majority of tickets for the first 30 days of the land vaccinated travel lane (VTL) – that starts next Monday (Nov 29) – are still available, it added on Thursday.

Thailand bans entry from 8 African countries over new ‘Omicron’ COVID mutation, as new strain appears in Europe

Thailand has become the latest ASEAN country to ban entry for travellers from eight African countries designated as high-risk for the new Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Starting from December, visitors from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe will be prohibited from entering Thailand

The move follows a similar decisions by Singapore yesterday as well as Sri Lanka.

There were 6,335 new Covid-19 cases and 37 more fatalities registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Thursday morning.

There were 6,305 cases in the general population and 30 among prison inmates.

The number of new cases rose from 5,857 announced on Wednesday, when the country recorded 55 more deaths.

Prayut: Talks with US business leaders.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has welcomed pledges by American businesses to continue investing in Thailand which is being seen as recognition of the country’s progress despite challenging times.

Gen Prayut on Thursday held a meeting with businessmen from the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (Amcham) via teleconference.
