As an outlier in the country’s medical field, the general practitioner tries to make the most of her unique position to help others in need. At just 27 years of age, Alegra Wolter is already a rarity among Indonesia’s medical workers. Having obtained her doctorate in medicine from Atma Jaya Catholic University in 2018, Alegra currently works as the partnership manager of Docquity Indonesia, a start-up focusing on medical network and education. The United States has donated another 1,698,000 doses of the Pfizer Biotech Covid-19 vaccine to Laos, through the COVAX Facility, with the shipment arriving at Wattay International Airport on Wednesday.
The arrival of the vaccine is very timely as health authorities are currently vaccinating thousands of adolescents aged 12 to 17 under the National Deployment and Vaccination Plan.
This latest donation builds upon the United States’ previous July 2021 donation of one million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to Laos, which was also delivered through the COVAX Facility.
With this latest shipment of Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, the United States has now provided 2,706,840 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Laos.
Ms Dastel said “UNICEF is proud to play a role in delivering Covid-19 vaccines to Laos as part of the COVAX Facility. As always, we and our partners stand ready to support the Lao government in its Covid response activities and to ensure that no one is left behind during the pandemic.”
