OP-ED: LTO needs to move its driving seminars online

Those that frequently drive from home to work or school know that the country’s roads are not exactly the safest places to drive on. This is proven by annual road accident statistics over the past couple of years. There’s no shortage of video proof either on social media.

The seminar can be chopped into shorter videos that an applicant has to click on and watch to the end manually. Another option is daily Zoom or Google Meets seminars. This way, and by requiring cameras to be on, the LTO can verify that applicants are indeed paying attention.
These are just some of the ways the requirement can be met without the risk of spreading the virus. All it takes is a little resourcefulness.

COMMENT:
The problem with the government agencies is they prefer to have income out of these seminars than help people get assistance for them to get decent jobs and livelihood especially those who are not educated enough to land into a higher level working statues .

If you are guided by the law of supply and demand, the answer to the surging price of a particular commodity is to flood the market with the item. This approach, however, is not as simple as it seems in a country where a large number of people still depend on agriculture.
The government has been trying to entice more Filipinos, especially the youth, to engage in agriculture and boost the country’s food security. But people are deterred by the thought that this entails too much work for too little profit. The competition posed by unabated smuggling of agricultural products adds to the deterrence, apart from undermining the livelihoods of local farming communities.

EDITORYAL – Walang silbi ang Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act
MULA nang lagdaan noong Mayo 2013 ang Republic Act 10586 o ang “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act” marami nang malagim na aksidente sa kalsada ang naganap na ang dahilan ay ang pagmamaneho nang lasing sa alak o kaya bangag sa ipinagbabawal na droga. Sa katunayan nang araw na lagdaan ang batas na ito ng yumaong Presidente Noynoy Aquino noong 2013, binangga ng isang sports utility vehicle (SUV) ang sinasakyang motorsiklo ng mag-asawa. Sa lakas ng pagkakabangga, tumilapon ang babae na ikinamatay nito. Malubha namang nasugatan ang lalaki. Ayon sa mga pulis, lasing ang driver ng SUV nang maganap ang pagbangga. Nagtangkang tumakas ang lalaki pero nahuli rin. Hindi na nalaman kung nakulong ang lalaki sa nagawa nitong kasalanan.
