Climbing over fences bordering the Laos-China Railway and walking alongside the track inside prohibited areas are both illegal and dangerous, the railway company has warned.
Two people in Naxaithong district, Vientiane, were photographed climbing over a fence on March 22, while one person was seen walking and another cutting grass (perhaps for his cattle) alongside the track.

“This is dangerous as prohibited areas might contain equipment with high-voltage electricity,” the Laos-China Railway Company Limited warned.
Also, crossing the railway itself is highly dangerous because trains cannot stop immediately and need a certain distance and period of time to stop, the company added.
The company warned people not to act irresponsibly, saying risky behaviour is dangerous not only for law-breakers but also for people travelling on trains, and could also result in property damage.
“It is highly dangerous if one climbs over a fence and gets inside a prohibited area,” the company warned.

In light of this issue, local and central security forces have been working with the company to patrol the railway, which connects Vientiane to the Chinese border.
