Sak Ema, a souvenir vendor at an Old Market’s stall here in the country’s tourist hub, has recorded better sales after the Chinese-invested Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) launched its operations last November.
Selling a variety of souvenirs ranging from Angkor-pictured plates, sculptures and paintings to clothes and traditional scarves, Ema notices that her sales have recently surged by about 50 percent on normal days and doubled on festival days or holidays.

YANGON (XINHUA) – Myanmar authorities have seized 1.2 million stimulant tablets in Mandalay region, said a release by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Sunday.
The seized drugs are worth about USD857,142, the release said. Acting on a tip-off, the combined team searched a vehicle on January 7 in Pyin Oo Lwin township and confiscated the drugs.
A suspect who conveyed drugs in the vehicle was charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Investigation is underway to reveal the related suspects, the CCDAC said.
Similarly, 17.6 kilogrammes of heroin was seized on January 9 in Chanmyathazi township of Mandalay, the CCDAC said earlier.

SINGAPORE: $32b to $38b in construction contracts expected to be awarded in 2024: BCA

SINGAPORE – Between $32 billion and $38 billion in construction contracts are expected to be awarded in 2024, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) said on Jan 15.
An estimated $33.8 billion worth of contracts were awarded in 2023, higher than the initial construction demand forecast of between $27 billion and $32 billion.
BCA attributed this to higher tender prices, expediting of contract awards for several private residential projects and ramping up of public housing projects.
