VIENTIANE, May 3 (Xinhua) — Representatives from member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are meeting here Friday on improving the management of construction materials and buildings, as well as coordinating response to challenges.
They gathered in Lao capital Vientiane for the 10th meeting of the Building and Construction Working Group (BCWG) on May 2-3, according to the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The meeting serves as an effective platform for ASEAN countries to promote cooperation in the area of industrial standards and conformity assessment for the building and construction sector within ASEAN, facilitating the exchange of ideas and information and increasing linkages.
Participants discussed risk assessment guidelines for buildings and construction materials.
The meeting is also intended to continue the research and discussions in resolving outstanding issues identified at the previous BCWG meeting and to make plans for future work.
At the meeting, participants also reported on the progress in the development of industrial standards and the assessment of conformity in ASEAN countries. ■
