CAMBODIA: Cambodia, US agree to boost cooperation in the fight against online fraud
General Sar Thet, Commissioner of the National Police of Cambodia, and Patrick Murphy, outgoing US Ambassador to Cambodia, have agreed to enhance cooperation in the fight against online fraud through the exchange of specific information.
Both sides said this during a courtesy meeting on May 10, 2024, at the Ministry of Interior.
During the meeting, General Sar Thet welcomed and appreciated the presence of the US Ambassador to Cambodia and the delegation to pay a courtesy call and say goodbye.

Desperate to meet their quotas, recruiters are using arbitrary arrests to help replenish the military’s rapidly diminishing ranks
As its faltering conscription drive enters its second month, Myanmar’s military has begun using more coercive methods to find new recruits, according to sources.
Instead of sending out letters summoning prospective draftees to recruitment centres, as required under a conscription law that went into effect for the first time this year, the military has been randomly arresting civilians and sending them to training centres, Myanmar Now has learned.
In February, the junta announced that it would begin enforcing the People’s Military Service Law, enacted by a previous regime more than a decade ago. The move has prompted many young people of conscription age to flee or go into hiding.

SINGAPORE: Singapore among 143 countries that voted to support Palestine’s UN membership bid
SINGAPORE – Singapore on May 10 voted for a United Nations resolution backing the admission of Palestine as a member of the world body, saying the decision was made after “serious and careful consideration”.
The vote in the UN General Assembly was supported by 143 members and opposed by nine – including the United States and Israel – while 25 members abstained.
It comes seven months after the Oct 7 terror attack by Hamas on Israel killed around 1,200 people and saw over 200 hostages captured, and as Israel’s ongoing military response has killed more than 35,000 Palestinians and led to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

THAILAND: One dead, four injured in Thailand storage tank fire.
BANGKOK (AP) – At least one person was killed and four others injured after a huge fire broke out at a chemical storage tank in an Eastern Thailand industrial park.
The fire in Mab Ta Phut Industrial Estate, which was first reported in the morning, was contained more than six hours later. Fire workers estimated it might take more than 10 hours to be able to fully extinguish the flames, according to the Rayong province’s public relations department.
About 400 workers and residents have been evacuated to a temporary shelter, the department said. Officials said the tank, which has a storage capacity of 2,500 cubic metres, belongs to the Mab Ta Phut Tank Terminal company, which operates a commercial port and storage terminal for petrochemical products. They said the tank contained Pyrolysis gasoline, a mixture of chemicals commonly used in gasoline blending.
Videos and photos from the scene show a huge plume of black smoke and raging fire engulfing a white tank that was standing close to several others.
The company said in a statement it is investigating the cause of the fire and will implement measures to prevent it from happening again. It expressed its condolences and said the company is ready to provide compensation to those affected.
