Campus Press: MAYBANK REGIONAL FINANCIAL EDUCATION EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2024 | Asean’s best in financial literacy honored
SOUTHEAST Asia’s exemplars of financial literacy in four categories were honored by the Maybank Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of the Malayan Banking Berhad or Maybank, at the 2024 Maybank Regional Financial Education Excellence Awards held at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater in Taguig City on Nov. 6, 2024.
Considered Malaysia’s most valuable bank with key operations in Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines, through the Regional Financial Education Excellence Awards, Maybank chose one winner from each of the four categories from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam for their excellence in applying the principles in the financial literacy animated series “Cashville Kidz.”
Originally piloted in Malaysia in 2013, “Cashville Kidz,” together with program partner MoneyTree Asia Pacific Ltd., has since expanded to Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines with more than 350,000 schoolchildren and trained around 6,000 teachers in more than 1,400 schools across the region benefiting to date.
“The target is to reach out to as many schoolchildren as possible across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) region so that they, in turn, can influence their family members and friends with their knowledge on good money management habits. This will build a new generation of youths who are savvy with money and who will enjoy better financial independence in their adult years. This is also aligned with Maybank’s sustainability commitment to improve the lives of 2 million households by 2025,” Maybank Foundation said in its primer.
In the original Maybank Financial Education Excellence Awards, the awardees were selected from among Malaysian schools. The 2023 awards were held in Cambodia in December.
Best School is given out to the school that has displayed exemplary leadership, vision and willingness to drive the financial literacy agenda in their institution.
Best Educator is given out to the educator who has displayed extraordinary dedication and commitment during the “Cashville Kidz” program to ensure his or her students achieve marked improvement in their pre- and post-assessment scores.

Maybank Foundation said the scholarship program “is designed to provide young talented and deserving Asean nationals with full scholarships to pursue their undergraduate program at a prestigious university outside their own countries, but within the Asean region, and in the process promote intra-Asean integration.”
