The withdrawal of Cambodia from the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) mechanism will not affect the relations between the three countries, as we use the country-level cooperation mechanism instead of this regional cooperation, such as the recent Trilateral Joint Training Exercise of the three armedforces of Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam 2024.
Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, underscored these remarks when he received a courtesy call from Gen. Phan Van Giang, Minister of the National Defence of Vietnam, yesterday at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh.
Congratulating the success of the Trilateral Joint Training Exercise, Hun Sen recommended that the Cambodian and Vietnamese Ministries of National Defence to examine the possibility of organising study visits, camping, and joint studies between military officers to strengthen relations and build mutual understanding.
The former prime minister of Cambodia also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s continued cooperation with Vietnam in the search for remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers fallen in Cambodia and in boosting trade exchange between the two neighbours.
For his part, Gen. Phan Van Giang praised Cambodia’s achievements under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party and reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to strengthen her cooperation with Cambodia, stressing that “the peace of one country is the peace of another country.”
The Vietnamese defence minister also briefed for 2024-2029, focusing on human resource development, education and training, border cooperation, and continued regular meetings between the two defence ministers in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, and so on. AKP
